the late 1880's, when it was replaced in this capacity by the Florida
East Coast railroad. Later, in the early 1900’s the “Old Dixie
Highway” and US1 were to become the favored routes for automobile
and truck travel. Unfortunately, much of the original “Old Kings
Road” was paved over during this motorized vehicle expansion
period.
Today, there has been much research done about the “Old Kings
Road,” resulting in a wealth of information being available in
published research papers, library collections, government reports
and well written books on the subject. The “Old Kings Road” and
“Lost Causeway,” just north of the New Britain Colony, would come to
light as John Anderson began contemplating the future of this growing
settlement along the Halifax River.
