important plantation, Mount Oswald, is located in today's Tomoka
State Park. Oswald established a ferry and another settlement on the
Tomoka River and later built the first bridge across that river near
Buckhead Bluff where today's traffic on U.S. 1 still roars across the
tranquil river waters.
