Our Place in History
About the Author

Ron and Alice Howell have been married since 1978 and have
shared many dreams, experiences and adventures as they traveled
around the world. This book is one of those “Dream Come True” events
that has been nurtured over the past decade and made possible through
their shared interest in knowing the history surrounding their home
environment, Halifax Country.

Volusia County has been our home since the early 1970’s and we
have sought out many events in both east and west Volusia as progress
has both enriched and disregarded our historical past. We have watched
and participated in activities bringing such structures as DeBary Hall
back from near ruin. We have attended art festivals on the wooden
verandas of the grand Hotel Ormond, before its demolition in 1992.

These treasured experiences have kindled a desire to help, in our
own way, preserve the history of Ormond Beach and surrounding
communities belonging to our Halifax Country.

Ron is the author of this recently reprinted book “Our Place in
History – Ormond Beach, Florida”. Ron also brings technology to this
project as he uses his software development and technical engineering
skills to help create this inspired book. Recent activities include web site
design and development as well as design and production of many
history related products. All graphics in this book were designed and
produced by Ron.

Alice brings many years of educational and travel industry
experience to this project. In recent years Alice has volunteered many
hours to the Museum of Arts and Sciences, as a docent, providing
museum tour and classroom experiences for children and adults alike.
Later as staff, in the Education Department, Alice was instrumental in
developing educational programs and facilitated children and adults
through several major exhibits such as the Great Asian Dinosaur and the
Glories of Ancient Egypt exhibits. Ron and Alice coauthored the following
book:
