remarked upon the nearness of the pine trees to the structure and
consequent insurance rates that might impend. "Can't cut them
down," said Mr. Anderson, "I'd rather put a hydrant under every tree."
In 1902 the Mount Washington, the finest hotel in this country, was
opened to the public as Anderson and Price's house. On resigning the
direction of any Southern hotel, as he did in 1909, Mr. Anderson took
the sole management of the Mount Washington, residing in Florida in
winter and almost as busy there with good roads, real estate and
other urgent matters as when he was concerned with the Hotel
Ormond itself. His Southern hotel work, it should be said, closed with
two years' management of the Henry Flagler owned Alcazar Hotel at
St. Augustine. Though cordially pressed to continue as the
management firm of the Mount Washington Hotel, he felt compelled
to decline in order to give more time to his Florida interests in
