Simrall, to purchase land along the Halifax River and begin laying out
an orange grove. Joseph D. Price of Covington, Kentucky enlisted his
two close friends, Jack Thomas of Covington, Kentucky; and Elijah
Craig of Lexington, Kentucky to join him and began their journey to
Halifax Country in early December 1875. The threesome arrived on
Christmas day and each of the young men from Kentucky soon took
up a Government sponsored homestead along the Halifax River on
the peninsula side, a few miles north of the Bostrom homestead.
Joseph Price and John Anderson were soon to become the best-of-
friends, sharing their stories and adventures as railroad men and
then became business partners for the rest of their lives. Little did
Anderson and Price realize the significance their railroad
backgrounds would play in the future development of what was to
become Ormond in 1880.
