Ormond War Memorial Art Gallery
A Living Tribute to Artistic Freedom
Nineteen-forty-six was a charmed
year for Ormond and little did we
know the impact that Malcom
Fraser would have on this historic
community situated along the
Halifax River and Atlantic Ocean in
Volusia County, Florida. Malcolm
Fraser, a Canadian citizen and
internationally known artist, was a
winter resident of Orlando, Florida,
and frequent visitor to the Ormond
area. Malcolm and his wife Mary
Aldrich Fraser found the east coast
of Florida along the Volusia County
coastline to be a pleasant and
delightful place to visit, even
though lacking in cultural
achievement at the time.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THIS ORMOND WAR MEMORIAL PROJECT
Every year more and more people visit this Memorial Gallery and
about fifty percent of them sign our guest register. These names fill
several large volumes totaling many thousands and represent people
from every state in the Union and many foreign countries. Most Of these
visitors are surprised and amazed to find such a valuable and inspiring
series of paintings in a small city like Ormond Beach and wish to know
something of the history of the Gallery and why the paintings are located
here.
Mr. Fraser had many requests from various northern cities for this
unique series of paintings accomplished by one artist over a period of
