Gratitude to Those Who Served…

Mr. Fraser volunteered for service in
World War I in 1917 and joined the
French regiment known as the "Blue
Devils." He later served as captain on the
front lines, as zone commander with the
American Red Cross, American
Expeditionary Forces.

In 1919 he resumed his career in America
as painter, teacher and lecturer on art. From that
time, he had an uninterrupted career rich in
accomplishments. At various times he was
identified with the advertising departments of the
Vacuum Oil Company, the Standard Oil Company,
and the staffs of the magazines noted above.

Both the Museum and the Gardens
were founded in 1946 as a memorial tribute
to veterans of World Wars I & II. A

monument on
the Museum

grounds
located with
the American
Flag recognizes
local soldiers
who served in
World War I.

A bronze plaque inside the Museum
lists all Ormond Beach residents who served
in World War II with an honor roll
recognizing those who gave their lives. Two
additional sculptures were later dedicated to those who served in the
Korean War and the Vietnam War and installed in the Memorial Gardens.
The image below shows the WWII memorial display in its original setting
in the center room of the early Ormond War Memorial Art Gallery building
along Granada Ave.
