After Flagler obtained possession of the hotel it was greatly enlarged
throughout the next 10 years and became one of the most famous
hostelries in Florida.
A west wing was added to the hotel, and machinery for the power
plant (which generated the electricity for the hotel), and distilled
water for batteries and engines, was from the Chicago World's Fair.
Thomas Delaney was the chief engineer at the plant, and later,
superintendent of the golf course and maintenance crew. Poland
Spring Water was brought down by train from Maine for the hotel
guests’ drinking water.
