The hotel season started in January, and ended in March. The height
of the season was in February when guests returning north from
vacation, came up from Palm Beach, which was getting a little too
warm for northerners at that time of year.
The most important celebration of the season was the
Washington’s Birthday Ball when the hotel would be decorated with
red, white and blue bunting, and famous guests would dance to the
hotel orchestra in the ballroom. The original ballroom was moved to
the south side of the hotel, near the beautiful palm-lined pathway
which extended from the hotel to the beach on the north side of
Granada Avenue.
