In 1903/1904 the famous Ormond Garage, a short distance east of
the hotel, was built and made ready for the early racing cars that
brought fame to the hotel and Ormond. The long, one story, shingled,
peak-roofed building with its brick floors was the original "Gasoline
Alley" and was a popular landmark until it burned down Wednesday,
January 8, 1976 - one of the saddest days in the history of Ormond.
Ormond was to become known as “The Birthplace of Speed” and this
early motto remains intact today.
