The third house (all on the same site) was one of the best residences
in the area. It was a three story frame house and well known for
boarding famous people during the winter months.
John Andrew Bostrom was a much respected citizen of Ormond
having one of the finest orange groves in the area and desire to help
all those who came to this wonderful area.
As one of the original settlers, John Bostrom witnessed every phase of
development in and around Ormond, and when the town was built
and organized he became a member of the council and for fourteen
years served as mayor. Prior to becoming mayor in 1881, for two
years by appointment he was county commissioner and also school
supervisor. John Bostrom organized The Ormond Bridge Company
and became its manager and also assisted in organizing the company
that built the Coquina Hotel, later known as the Bretton Inn at
Ormond Beach. A few years later the Coquina Hotel was sold to
Anderson and Price, renamed the Bretton Hotel, and many years later
after both men died, was rebuilt as the second Coquina Hotel. John
Andrew served as either president or secretary of the hotel company
until it was dissolved. All the older settlers sought out John Andrew
Bostrom for advice when they came here, and he was an cherished
